danielsilliman.org – Kawasaki has recently unveiled a groundbreaking prototype of its Ninja H2 motorcycle powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE), marking a significant step toward sustainable high-performance motorcycling.

Hydrogen-Powered Engine

The prototype features a 998cc inline four-cylinder supercharged engine, adapted from the standard Ninja H2, modified to inject hydrogen directly into the cylinders. This adaptation allows the engine to combust hydrogen, emitting primarily water vapor and significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Public Demonstration

In July 2024, Kawasaki conducted the world’s first public demonstration of a hydrogen-fueled motorcycle at the Suzuka 8 Hours FIM World Endurance race in Japan. This event showcased the hydrogen-powered Ninja H2’s capabilities and Kawasaki’s commitment to exploring alternative fuels for motorcycles.

Design and Fuel Storage

The hydrogen-powered Ninja H2 prototype maintains the aerodynamic design of its gasoline counterpart. Notably, it features large saddlebags housing hydrogen fuel canisters, indicating Kawasaki’s approach to integrating hydrogen storage solutions into motorcycle design.
